OCR / Document Intelligence

Turning documents into business data — not just readable text, but structured information a process can use.

  • Data extraction
Before

Information the business needed was sitting inside documents: PDFs, scans, photographs of printed pages, files exported from systems that no longer existed. To use any of it, somebody read the document and typed what it said into a spreadsheet or a system.

After

Documents enter the process as data. Extracted values carry a reference back to the original, and anything the system is unsure about is flagged for a person rather than guessed at silently.

The problem

Manual reading is slow, and it is the step where errors enter. It also puts a hard ceiling on what the business can do with its own information — analysis that would require reading a thousand documents simply does not get done, so questions that could be answered from existing records go unanswered instead.

What we built

We built document processing that handles the formats the business actually receives, including scanned and photographed pages, and extracts the specific fields that matter for the process it feeds. Output is structured data with the source location preserved, so any extracted value can be traced back to the page it came from and checked.

Where AI enters

OCR converts an image into text; AI is what makes the text useful. It works out what the document is, locates the required information regardless of where it sits on the page or how that particular supplier formats their paperwork, and returns it as structured fields. This is the difference between a searchable PDF and a document that has been genuinely read — no template has to be configured for every new layout.

Business value

Information that was locked in paperwork becomes usable — searchable, countable, checkable. Manual reading and retyping largely disappears from the process, and with it the transcription errors that are expensive precisely because they are discovered late.
